Foreplay sired a stylish first-starter named Can Be Better at Kranji on Friday night. The Stephen Gray trained gelding was too tough for his rivals and his win took Foreplay’s tally to 20 winners of 39 races.
Can Be Better (3g Foreplay- Silaque by Sir Laurence) was headed in the straight but rallied to score a dogged half-length victory over Rocket Express.
Gray parted with $65,000 for the gelding the Magic Millions HIT Sale. “I liked him on type and took a bit of a gamble on him,” said Gray. “He had a couple of problems so I decided to keep him myself.
“Luckily he’s come good up here and stayed sound. He’s a nice horse and I think he should be able to go on with it.”
Foreplay is one of four stallions to sire a winner from Silaque following Brief Truce, Encounter and Danehill Dancer. The best of them has been G3 Moonee Valley winner Coronga (Danehill Dancer).
Foreplay has been a revelation since moving to Woodside Park last year. Leading the charge is Decision Time (G2 AJC Stan Fox Stakes) followed by Playcidium Mint (G3 WATC Lee Steere Stakes) and That’s Not It (G3 MVRC Red Anchor Stakes).
His filly Playtime won the $110,000 Rockhampton Breeders’ Plate and then Havatryst completed a winning hat-trick at Eagle Farm on Boxing Day.
Foreplay (Danehill) transferred to Woodside Park after fertility issues hindered his stud career in the Hunter Valley. Subsequent stem cell treatment has improved his fertility in Victoria.
Woodside Park sold all seven of its lots entered for the Magic Millions. The top priced lots both cost $200,000 and will head to leading Sydney stables.
The Fastnet Rock – Beacon Heights colt went to Anthony Cummings and the Snitzel – You’re the One filly is joining plenty of other Snitzels at Gerald Ryan’s yard.
Woodside Park has 13 yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Melbourne premier yearling sale including two colts by Fastnet Rock plus a colt and filly by Snitzel.
