Helter Skelter will relocate to Craiglea Stud this year and he received a timely lift last week when Psychodelic scored at Eagle Farm.
Psychodelic (2g Helter Skelter – Valiant Miss by Snippets) also gave jockey Priscilla Schmidt her first city victory in the Sky Racing 2YO Hcp (1000m). The gelding won by a length in a quick 58.57s.
A Sunshine Coast maiden winner in January, Psychodelic is turning out a bargain buy from Network Bloodstock. He was purchased by trainer Ted Harden and his wife Bette at the 2010 Magic Millions National HIT Sale for $6,500.
His dam Valiant Miss hails from a Newhaven Park family that generated the G1 winners Burst and Victory Prince. She had already foaled minor winners by Palace Music, Langfuhr and Catcher in the Rye and her latest is a yearling filly by Zabeel sire Dark Lord.
Psychodelic is one of five first crop foals for Helter Skelter who won 10 races including the 2007 Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast. He has covered just 31 mares in four seasons. The Australian Stud Book listed Willowbend Stud as his home base in 2010 when he stood for a $3,300 service fee.
Helter Skelter is by former Eureka Stud shuttler Piccolo who is now permanently based at Throckmorton Court Stud in Worcestershire.
In Europe, as well as G1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner La Cucuracha, he has been represented by July Stakes winner Winker Watson, Prix Maurice Lacroix-Trophy winner Ajigolo and G3 winner Pan Jammer.
His Eureka bred runners include G1 T J Smith Classic winner Picaday, G2 Queensland Guineas winner Express Air and the Listed winners Grecolo, Picardi Run and Video Hits.
Craiglea Stud’s Stan Johnston has assembled a wide-ranging roster for 2011. Apart from Helter Skelter it comprises: Warhead (Viscount), Longhorn (Danehill), Top Echelon (Umatilla), Waterford Road (Danehill), Rapid Man (St Covet), Royal Harlequin (Danehill), Adventurous (Fairy King) and Citywise (More Than Ready).
