Vinery stallion Mossman is primed for another big weekend after siring Hendricus to a promising win at Randwick on Wednesday.
Hendricus (3c Mossman – Only Vanda by Linamix) was sent out an overwhelming favourite first-up in the Clovelly Hcp (1100m) and quickly put the issue beyond doubt in the straight. ”He’s better chasing and coming with a late run,” O’Shea said. “But when they are at $1.50 you don’t want to be riding them pretty.
“It was a good hit-out and he will improve. The owners are enthusiastic and they’re having a lot of fun with him.”
Hendricus won an Inglis bonus on Wagga Wagga Cup day in May and O’Shea indicated the colt will be set for a $100,000 Inglis bonus event later this year.
O’Shea bought him for $62,500 out of the Twin Palms consignment at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale. The colt races for the same connections as his older half-sister Warpath (Reset). She has won 7 races including a Listed victory in the Aspiration Hcp at Warwick Farm in March.
Last weekend, Mossman sired Hoofit to win the G3 Phoenix Stakes in Kentucky which qualified him for the G1 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
Meanwhile, the Vinery resident can sire more feature winners in Melbourne and Sydney this Saturday.
At Caulfield on Cup day, he will be represented by Buffering (Perri Cutten Sprint), Love Conquers All (Betfair Stakes), Mo Vo (Ethereal Stakes) and Absalon (Australia Stakes).
Mossman’s runners at the City Tattersalls meeting at Randwick are Ofcourseican (The Nivison) and Midnight At Ascot (Lightning Hcp).
Ofcourseican won the LR Wenona Girl Hcp at Warwick Farm in March. She is trained by Ron Quinton and was placed in the LR Sheraco Stakes and G3 Golden Pendant since returning from a spell.
Mossman is a G1 winning son of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Success Express and he stands for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee at Vinery.
