Jewel joins Fastnet Five

Atlantic Jewel went into the MRC One Thousand Guineas as an odds-on favourite and she lived up to that rating in Wednesday’s fillies feature at Caulfield

Atlantic Jewel (3f Fastnet Rock – Regard by Zabeel) is now unbeaten in four starts with wins at Geelong, Moonee Valley and Caulfield (2).  She becomes the 21st stakes-winner for Fastnet Rock and is his fifth Group 1 winner following Lone Rock, Irish Lights, Wanted and Rock Classic.

Atlantic Jewel led home a G1 quinella for the Coolmore sire when she cruised home by three lengths from Mosheen.  Third home Sharnee Rose (Nadeem) was another two lengths in arrears.

“They don’t come along like her very often,” trainer Mark Kavanagh said.  “She does things I haven’t seen a horse do before.”

The One Thousand Guineas winner was born and raised at Vinery Stud in Scone.  Vinery Stud part-owner Greg Perry purchased her dam Regard (with Atlantic Jewel in utero) at the 2008 Magic Millions National Sale.

Atlantic Jewel was foaled at the historic Segenhoe Valley nursery on the 26th of September in 2008 and was subsequently sold as part of Vinery Stud’s draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.

Purchased by Coolmore Stud for $320,000, Atlantic Jewel remains undefeated and has now won close to $400,000.  Sadly, Regard, had only one more foal before her premature death earlier this year.
