Hernando colt headlines Goffs Sportsman’s Sale

Irish auction house Goffs conducted its Sportsman’s yearling sale on Friday following a successful Orby Sale earlier this week.

The Hernando – Oval Office (Pursuit of Love) colt topped the session at 75,000 euros.  He is a half-brother to G3 Sirenia Stakes winner Glass Office (Verglas).  Newmarket agent Stephen Hillen purchased him from the Staffordstown draft.

Other highlights included the Arakan half-brother to stakes winner Katla (67,000) and fillies by Shamardal and Raven’s Pass (60,000).

Trade reached 2.37 million euros for the 138 yearlings that were sold.  The average price rose 30% to 17,193 euros and median jumped 40% to 14,000 euros.  The clearance rate was 81%.

“The Sportsman’s sale continued the very positive trends of the Orby Sale,” Goffs CEO Henry Beeby said.  “There was some debate about the best date for this sale and the feedback from the industry was the day immediately following the Orby was the preferred slot.”
