More Power to Coolmore Stud

Two days after adding Stay Thirsty to its northern roster, Coolmore Stud has announced Power will stand at its Irish headquarters in 2013.

Both colts have won in Group 1 company this year.  Stay Thirsty (Bernardini) will stand at Coolmore’s Kentucky base at Ashford Stud after claiming the Travers Stakes at Saratoga.

Power (Oasis Dream) claimed the Irish 2000 Guineas in May but was then injured in the St. James’s Palace Stakes.  “He’s a smashing horse with lots of tactical speed and a great turn of foot,” trainer Aidan O’Brien said.  “Unfortunately he sustained an injury at Royal Ascot when a horse came down in front of him.  We thought he would be back for another campaign but we’ve just run out of time.”

Power was a precocious two-year-old winning at home before crossing the Irish Sea to complete a hat-trick in the G2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.  He followed up with a Group 1 success in the National Stakes at the Curragh.

The first son of Oasis Dream to stand at Coolmore, Power is a half-brother to Ribblesdale Stakes winner Thakafaat.  Their dam Frappe (Inchinor) is a half-sister to Footstepsinthesand who failed to sire a single domestic stakes winner while shuttling to Coolmore Australia.
