High Chaparral foals dominate NZB National Sale

High Chaparral dominated the foal section of the NZ Bloodstock National Sale on Monday.  The Coolmore champion sired the top three colts among the 170 weanlings sold on Day 1 at Karaka.

The $13,429 average is 16% ahead of last year at a clearance rate of 74%.  There are another 100 weanlings catalogued for sale on Tuesday.

The High Chaparral colt from unraced Mi Preferido mare Bibi Maizoon fetched a session-high $170,000 to the bid of Tim Bodle’s Whakanui Stud.  He was offered by Brighthill Farm.

Next on the leader-board was a $165,000 High Chaparral colt from Pompeii Court mare Sweet Geisha.  He was offered by Curraghmore Stud and was purchased by Auckland-based agent Paul Willetts on behalf of a Victorian syndicate.

Curraghmore topped of the vendor tables by both average $64,600 and aggregate ($323,000) and the end of Day 1 and is on track to be the leading vendor at this session for the sixth year in a row.

Curraghmore’s Gordon Cunningham is delighted with how the Sale is progressing.  “We’ve always considered this sale as a viable commercial option for our clients,” he remarked.  “The interest before the sale has been consistent with previous years and we’ve achieved really good prices for the obvious horses.”

Curraghmore’s Pentire three-quarter sister to Zarita was the third top price of the day at $130,000.  She was one of three purchases made by leading buyer Dean Hawthorne.
