Hobartville high for Ilovethiscity

Ilovethiscity has always been held in the highest regard by trainer Grahame Begg and he produced an awesome display in the G2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday.  The Magic Albert colt pulled his way up to the leaders at the top of the straight to defeat Darley colts Retrieve (Rahy) and Skilled (Commands).

Ilovethiscity (3c Magic Albert – Kensington Rose by Kenfair) has come back a much more seasoned galloper this time in.  He was racing second-up after a close fourth in the G2 Royal Sovereign Stakes won by Master Harry earlier this month.

“He will go on to the G1 Randwick Guineas and I think he will be a great lightweight chance in the Doncaster,” Begg predicted.  “We were pretty confident going into the Hobartville and he put paid to them easily.”

Ilovethiscity was the unlucky runner when third in the G1 Golden Rose in August and then claimed a G3 victory in the Spring Stakes at Newcastle.  He was spelled after pulling up sore in the G1 Caulfield Guineas in October.

A $40,000 Fairview Park Stud graduate of the 2009 Inglis Classic yearling sale, Ilovethiscity hails from the family of Begg’s 1993 G1 AJC Oaks winner Mahaya (Sir Tristram).

Yarraman Park stallion Magic Albert sired his 200th individual winner when Bingo Rose scored by four lengths at the Gold Coast on February 12.  He is also the sire of Royal Sovereign Stakes winner Master Harry but it’s unlikely the colts will meet again during the autumn carnivals.
Master Harry has been nominated for the G1 Newmarket Hcp at Flemington, however, trainer Peter Moody will probably check the calendar to see if there’s a viable alternative instead of running him against star stablemate Black Caviar.
