Glenlogan Park stallion Jet Spur produced another smart youngster when Kahui led home a Magic Millions trifecta in the Fox Hotel 2YO Handicap (1300m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The Pat Duff trained filly sat in behind the leaders before collaring Miss Leibert and True Blitz close to home.
Kahui (2f Jet Spur – Tessa Bianca by Carnegie) will be a candidate for the rich QTIS 600 Plate at the Gold Coast next month. She was runner-up to Jet Spur filly Doug’s Mate at Eagle Farm a fortnight ago and can reverse that result in the $250,000 event on March 19.
“She has a bright future but I doubt whether she will reach her full potential until she stretches out to a mile,” Duff claimed. “I like the Jet Spurs and the cross with a staying family from New Zealand made it more intriguing.”
Kahui cost Duff $54,000 from the Glenlogan Park draft at last year’s Magic Millions QTIS 600 yearling sale. Saturday’s QTIS bonus helped swell her earnings to $94,500
Clear Summer Lodge has catalogued her yearling half brother by Bradbury’s Luck as Lot 496 at the QTIS 600 yearling sale.
Their dam Tessa Bianca is an unraced half-sister to G2 MRC Sandown Guineas winner Sender (Keeper) and Listed STC Eskimo Prince Hcp winner National Saint (St Covet).
Minutes after Kahui was successful, Jet Spur colt Tragedy struck in the Spar Supermarket Plate (900m) at the Gold Coast. He had won a trial at Toowoomba and lived up to that hit-out with a convincing victory for trainer Paul Nolan.
Tragedy (2c Jet Spur – Kylie Girl by Octagonal) was a $16,000 purchase from Moranjee Stud at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale. His dam Kylie Girl is a half sister to the Black Opal Stakes winner Fraud.
A full sister to Tragedy is being prepared by the Moranjee for the 2010 QTIS 600 yearling sale at the Gold Coast in April.
Jet Spur (Flying Spur) was a stakes winning sprinter in Sydney and Melbourne and he has made an immediate mark at stud. His Glenlogan Park homebred Tabassi also won on debut at Doomben last Wednesday.
Jet Spur has 41 youngsters catalogued for the 2011 QTIS 600 Yearling Sale.
