Trainer Jason Miller has advised punters to follow his Trade Fair four-year-old Fair Hunter for the remainder of the Belmont Park season.
Having his first start since April, Fair Hunter stormed home to win the Playeronline Hcp on Saturday clocking a best sectional of 34.90s for the final 600m.
Fair Hunter (4g Trade Fair – Orion Star by Spinning World) is unbeaten in three starts over 2000 metres. “He had a little let-up and we were quietly confident,” Miller said. “He can either lead or come from behind and that’s a bonus. He also likes Belmont Park and we will take out as much as we can over the winter season.”
Fair Hunter was bred by Bernard Herrera and races for a syndicate headed by William Brooks after failing to reach his reserve at the 2009 Perth Autumn Magic Millions. He has now won 4 times from 14 starts for almost $70,000 in stakes.
Brooks had purchased his dam Orion Star for $12,000 at a Perth Magic Millions Mixed Sale in April 2008. She has since been transferred to Victoria where her latest cover was by rising sire Artie Schiller.
Orion Star was a homebred for John Roberts and she won an Ascot juvenile event in February 2002. Her dam Pert Sallie (Star Appeal) was a half-sister to G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Cheeky Trot (Godswalk).
Cheeky Trot was also raced by the Multiplex boss and she figured in one of Ascot’s most famous finishes when a close-up fifth to Kingston Town in the 1982 Western Mail Classic.
Cheeky Trot foaled talented filly Dancer’s Choice (Bletchingly) to win stakes races at Morphettville and Flemington. A Lindsay Park homebred, she in turn foaled the stakes winners Naden (Spectrum) and Catango (Catrail).
Trade Fair (Zafonic) has sired 5 winners in past 10 days. He originally shuttled to WA but is now based full-time at Alwyn Park for a $4,950 (inc gst) service fee.
His English filly Moonstone Magic has been back in work for a month with Hampshire based trainer Ralph Beckett. She won the G3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury in April and holds entries for the G3 Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse on July 4 and G1 Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on July 13.
