Talented Tasmanian mare Huon Cry has been earmarked to join the Geelong stables of former Tasmanian trainer Jason Clifford.
Huon Cry (4m Telesto – Classic Grades by Honor Grades) made it back-to-back wins when she came from a seemingly hopeless position to grab a last stride-stride in the Gateway Shopping Centre (1100m) at Elwick on Sunday.
The lightly raced mare had won first-up from a long spell on Hobart Cup day prompting visiting jockey Darren Gauci to declare she was good enough to win races against her own sex in Melbourne.
Huon Cry’s part-owner and breeder Rex Colless gave the go-ahead for a move to the mainland after her eye-catching victory on the weekend. She was spotting the leaders at least 15 lengths approaching the corner but motored home to seize control in the shadows of the post.
Huon Cry is by Armidale Stud resident Telesto (USA). He is a Mr Prospector sire and has sired 52 individual winners of 115 races at a 60% strike-rate.
Clifford, who officially took over his Geelong stables last week, said he was impressed with Huon Cry this preparation and he was looking forward to her joining his team in Victoria.
