Another Good Girl by Jet Spur

Trainer Pat Duff’s love affair with the Jet Spur breed has given him a strong chance of claiming the $250,000 QTIS600 Plate at the Gold Coast following Jet Star Girl’s impressive victory at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Jet Star Girl went into the QTIS Hamilton Hotel Handicap (1200m) on a light preparation but didn’t disappoint Duff with a convincing three-quarters of a length win over Master Of Puppets (Mossman).

Jockey Jason Taylor now has a difficult decision choosing between Jet Star Girl and stablemate Kahui, another daughter of Jet Spur, who scored a narrow win for Duff at Eagle Farm last week.  “I’m having a bit of luck with these Jet Spurs,” Duff said.  “He’s turning out to be a very good sire.”

Duff plans to run both fillies in the QTIS600 Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast on March 19 before raising the bar to the Brisbane winter carnival.   “She’s out of an O’Reilly mare and she went into this race with just one barrier trial and a run at Ipswich,” Duff said.  “She’s still very green and has a lot of learning to do but don’t be surprised if you see her in the winter carnival.”

Jet Star Girl (2f Jet Spur – Chicitee by O’Reilly) was passed in at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions before Glenlogan Park owner Jon Haseler decided to race her in the stud’s maroon colours.  She collected prizemoney and QTIS bonus cheques totalling $53,000 on Saturday.

Her dam Chicitee has another Jet Spur filly that also failed to make a $50,000 reserve at this year’s Magic Millions yearling sale.  The mare has a Real Saga filly on the ground and she was bred back to Jet Spur last year.
