Hussonet gelding Sizes up G1 HK Mile

Glorious Days laid down a significant marker for next month’s international meeting at Sha Tin by readily mastering Hong Kong champion Ambitious Dragon in the G2 Jockey Club Mile at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Glorious Days was purchased by Bryce Tankard for John Size after winning a Te Rapa maiden for Stephen McKee,.  The Cambridge-based bloodstock agent also bought NZ bred Real Specialist (Storming Home) for the same trainer and he is a recent winner of the Panasonic Cup.

Glorious Days (5g Hussonet – San Century by Centaine) delivered four victories in his initial HK campaign in 2011-12 and he was also runner-up in the G1 Champions Mile before proving uncompetitive in the Yasuda Kinen in Japan.

Fitted with blinkers for the first time in Sunday’s big trial, he turned around a decisive beating by NZ-bred Ambitious Dragon on October 28.  “He has always promised to do that,” said Size.  “It was just a matter of whether he delivered.  It was a pretty big effort going into a big race and he’s got three weeks to get over it.”

Glorious Days was offered for sale twice at Karaka.  Passed in for $90,000 at the 2009 NZB Premier Yearling Sale, he was then passed in again for $75,000 at the 2009 NZB Ready To Run Sale.

He is the 87th  stakes winner for Hussonet (Mr Prospector) who notched another G2 when Tatra claimed the Sandown Guineas on Saturday.  He stands at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia, by arrangement with Arrowfield, at a fee of $25,000.
