Yung Warrior gave Queensland based sire Classic de Lago his first winner at Fannie Bay on Saturday.
Yung Warrior (3g Classic De Lago – Classic Dom by Commands) was initially trained by Bruce Hill at the Gold Coast and had been runner-up at his home track in August before transferring to Darwin. He started odds-on first-up in the Top End and duly obliged by three lengths in the Jess’s Getting Hitched Maiden (1100m).
Moranjee Stud sold Yung Warrior for $2,000 at the 2011 Brisbane Bloodstock yearling sale. He is a younger half-brother to minor winners by Sunday Knight, Show a Heart and Strategic. His dam Classic Dom foaled another Classic De Lago colt in August.
The bottom half of his pedigree is a precocious one. Second dam All Classic (St Covet) and third dam Rory’s Classic (Rory’s Jester) both won editions of the Listed QTC McDougall Stakes in 1998 and 1993 respectively.
Classic De Lago (Encosta de Lago) was a Morphettville winner as a spring three year-old in 2006-07 and later that season he was runner-up to Lazer Sharp in the G1 South Australian Derby. He retired to Beaudesert based Moranjee Stud in 2008 for an advertised fee of $4,500.
