Hussons do the Hussle at Sandown

Not for the first time, Husson Eagle and Lucky Hussler won in tandem for Vinery sire Husson (Arg) at Sandown on Saturday.

Husson Eagle became the 10th stakes-winner for Husson with a powerful victory in the LR Doveton Stakes (1000m).  He cost $42,500 at the 2013 Adelaide Magic Millions and has now earned over $913,000 for Prime Thoroughbreds.

Lucky Hussler was equally impressive coming from the back-half of the field in the G3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (130m).  He was well in at weight-for-age with Group 1 wins to his credit in last year’s Wm Reid Stakes and Toorak Hcp.

They had delivered a $1.20 million jackpot for Husson at the Gold Coast Magic Millions meeting in January.

Trainer Patrick Payne has Husson Eagle on target for a defence of the Magic Millions Sprint (1100m).  He clocked a course-record winning it for the first time in 61.74s.  “He was the best horse in the race today and is always good fresh,” Payne declared.  “He’s furnished and matured and has got a good preparation ahead.”

Lucky Hussler is also heading back to the Gold Coast.  “He’s on track for another crack at the Magic Millions Sprint,” trainer Darren Weir said.  “We’re likely to send him straight there without another run.”

Weir removed the blinkers after a pair of Group 1 losses in the Moir and Manikato at Moonee Valley.  “He went terrific working without them this week so we rolled the dice and he really attacked the line.”

On the international front, Husson provided two new winners in Hong Kong and South Africa last week.

Great Treasure (Aus) opened his account with a fast finish at the end of 1400m at Sha Tin.  He’s related to G1 Brisbane Cup winner Art Success and was having his first run for trainer Almond Lee.

Zinzara (Aus) won her maiden at Greyville for part-owner and trainer Paul Lafferty.  She’s related to Brisbane stakes winner Karacadis (Hussonet) and sold as a foal for $18,000 at the Gold Coast in 2013.

Husson stands for a $13,200 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery.
