Perth stayer Tonto highlighted a city-winning treble for Onemorenomore in the Listed Ascot Gold Cup (1800m) on Saturday.
The Ridgeview Park resident also sired Something More (Morphettville) and Darts Away (Rosehill) earlier in the day as well as Happy No More who scored a first-up, front-running victory at the Gold Coast.
Onemorenomore expat Master Steed is also on the boil in Hong Kong after starting his season with a fast-finishing second in the Panasonic Hcp (1200m) at Sha Tin on Saturday.
Tonto raced against his normal come-from-behind pattern to win at Ascot. “After looking at the speed map, I told Jason (Brown) to go forward and it worked out perfectly,” trainer Lou Luciani said. “I thought he was a certainty at the weights after his run in the Northam Cup.”
Racing in Peter Walsh’s Amelia Park colours, Tonto is a homebred for fellow part-owners Colin Hounsell and Colin Crossley and has now banked over $444,000 from 7 wins in 31 starts.
Tonto (5g Onemorenomore – Grier Garsonne by Arena) broke through for his first black-type victory at Ascot. He had been placed at Listed level in the Bunbury Cup, Roberts Quality, Lex Piper Stakes and was also fourth home in last year’s Group 2 WA Derby.
Onemorenomore (Red Ransom) is a Top 10 sire in Victoria this season with the winners of 32 races and $632,928 in prizemoney. He stands at Ridgeview Park for a $5,500 (inc gst) fee alongside Al Samer, Scintillo, Best Choice and Golden Snake.
