I Am Invincible has been signed to stand at Yarraman Park for the 2010 season. He was last seen when unplaced behind Nicconi in the G3 McEwan Stakes at Moonee Valley in September.
“I Am Invincible showed unbelievable speed from only a couple of starts as a juvenile,” Yarraman Park owner Arthur Mitchell said. “He scored several spectacular wins later in his career and was also runner-up to Takeover Target in the G1 Goodwood.
I Am Invincible (5h Invincible Spirit – Cannarelle by Canny Lad) won by five lengths on debut as a February 2yo at Warwick Farm and was then placed behind subsequent Golden Slipper winner Forensics a fortnight later in the G3 Kindergarten Stakes.
I Am Invincible returned the following spring to win at Warwick Farm but, because the colt suffered from hoof problems, he was transferred to the Victorian stables of Peter Morgan.
The Whittlesea trainer worked wonders with I Am Invincible. He won first-up by four lengths at Caulfield in March 2009 and then crossed the border to beat star filly Augusta Proud in the G3 Evright Stakes at Morphettville.
Pitched in against Takeover Target in the G1 Goodwood, he led from the start and was gallant in defeat when overhauled by Joe Janiak’s old marvel.
Returning to Melbourne, I Am Invincible overcame a slow start to win the Listed Monash Stakes at Caulfield. On the strength of that victory, Morgan and his owners Ray and Brett Gall were keen to take the colt to overseas for races like the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint and Hong Kong Sprint.
“He gets around the turns well and a turf race in the United States would really suit him,” Morgan said after the Caulfield victory. “He is by Invincible Spirit, and if he can go over there and be competitive it would make him as a stallion.”
Further feet problems ruled out an international campaign, nevertheless, I Am Invincible retires with an outstanding record of five wins from 13 starts.
“With Foreplay now infertile, Yarraman needed a replacement and I Am Invincible is a horse we have followed since his two year-old days,” Mitchell said. “He is by Invincible Spirit and his female family is full of Australian stakes winners like O’Lonhro and Madame Pedrille.”
I Am Invincible is the first son of Invincible Spirit to stand at stud in the southern hemisphere. His sire shuttled from the Irish National Stud to Chatswood Stud in Australia for four seasons from 2003 until 2006.
