Iffraaj off to fantastic start at Karaka

Iffraaj has made a particularly strong start with his first southern crop of yearlings at the NZ Bloodstock National yearling sale.

The Haunui Farm shuttler had 10 Premier Sale lots average $208,500 with a high of $540,000 paid by Mark Kavanagh for the half-brother to G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive (Lot 256).

Iffraaj was Europe’s Champion first season sire breaking Invincible Spirit’s record in the northern hemisphere with 38 individual winners in 2010.

Iffraaj (Zafonic) stands at Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Ireland and his European first-crop flag-bearer is unbeaten G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Wootton Bassett.

“The results have been fantastic,” Haunui Farm studmaster Mark Chitty said.  “Yearling sales are always a little bit about timing and Iffraaj has helped himself by having the quality of individual that buyers want.”

“I think so many individuals like to see a sire throw a type.  All the judges have liked this horse”.

Iffraaj will have 42 yearlings on offer at the NZ Bloodstock Select Sale and another four lots at the Festival Sale.
