Impressive Jeuney will head to the Eastern States after a convincing victory in the Listed Schweppes La Trice Classic (1800m) at Ascot on Boxing Day.
“She’s a high class filly,” trainer Darren McAuliffe said. “I will send her to the paddock and look for a Group 1 in Melbourne.”
Impressive Jeuney (3f Jeune – Rego’s Girl by Rory’s Jester) upstaged her older rivals for another an all-the-way victory following the Listed WA St Leger on December 12. Those wins followed a close second to top colt Dino Mak in the G3 Lee-Steere Classic.
The filly is by deceased Lindsay Park sire Jeune and her dam comes from a family that has been producing Perth stakes winners since the 1980s.
Rego’s Girl was bred by Neville Duncan at Oakland Park Stud and was sold for $100,000 at the 2002 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She was trained by John Symonds when he was based at Macedon Lodge and won a Wangaratta maiden in November 2003.
Her value had dipped to $14,000 by the time she was sold as a broodmare prospect at the 2005 Inglis Melbourne June Sale. The buyer was Suffolk Vale, a company associated with the Kellys of Newhaven Park.
Perth’s connection with that branch of the family resumed when McAuliffe bought Impressive Jeuney as a foal. She was sent back “home” from the Gold Coast after making $27,000 from the Newhaven draft at the 2007 Magic Millions National weanling sale.
Rego’s Girl is a daughter of Key Target (Serheed) who was raced by Stan Quinlivan and Col Green to wins in the Listed Belmont Guineas and Belmont Oaks.
Second dam Right On Target (Jevington) is an unraced sister to G3 winner Stray Bullet (Sir Ernest Lee Steere Classic) and a half-sister to Listed winner Dangervorn (WATC Sunspeed Champion Stakes). The latter was a Zvornik colt raced by Great Southern breeder Keith Bignell who later stood him at stud with limited success.
Impressive Jeuney has been nominated for the G2 Perth Cup on New Year’s Day but connections will likely opt for a let-up before sending her back east.
