Darley sires claimed a second Inglis Race Series bonus in three days when Lonhro colt Breitling won at Caulfield on Saturday.
Breitling (2c Lonhro – Spring Flyte by Flying Spur) was runner-up to Soul at Flemington last month but reversed that result second-up. The win netted connections almost $150,000 in prizemoney and bonuses.
“The Inglis bonus is a huge incentive,” winning trainer Robert Smerdon said. “Breitling has good natural ability and the best nature. Hopefully he’s up to better class.”
Breitling was a $50,000 buy for Racenet Syndications at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. He was catalogued by Tony Santic a year after his Makybe operation sold champion colt Starspangledbanner at Oaklands Junction.
Breitling’s dam Spring Flyte died soon after foaling a Lonhro filly last October. His second dam Happy Spring (Rory’s Jester) is a sister to Mornmoot Stud sire Happy Giggle.
Exceed And Excel filly Liesele collected a $50,000 Inglis bonus in addition to $17,500 prizemoney on the Grafton Cup undercard on Thursday.
The final chance for 2009 Inglis yearling graduates to pick up an Inglis Race Series bonus as two-year-olds comes up at Rosehill on July 31, with another $100,000 bonus.
