Bargain buy Hewentwhoosh gave his connections reason to cheer last Friday night when he won the $100,000 Inglis Challenge at Scone. In a capacity field made up entirely of Inglis graduates, Hewentwhoosh surged clear of his rivals in the straight to score by just under two lengths.

Hewentwhoosh (2g Dane Shadow-Zebithea by Barathea) was a $4,500 purchase by Mudgee trainer Brett Thompson at the 2008 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.  He continues the exciting start for Kitchwin Hills freshman Dane Shadow, who has already sired four winners including Shadow Miss, a recent Rosehill winner and Shadow Assassin, who ran a slashing fourth behind eventual Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Hewentwhoosh is the second winner from as many to race for Zebithea and descends from the same family as G3 AURC Eclipse Stakes winner Master McGinty (McGinty) and Listed Jungle Dawn Classic winner Royal Sonata (Royal Academy). Zebithea has a weanling colt by Danzig shuttler Ad Valorem and was served by Librettist last year.

The Paul Messara trained Obvious Choice completed an excellent day for Inglis graduates when he took out the Listed Scone Cup (1600m). Obvious Choice (4g Redoute’s Choice-Opera Queen by Pleasant Colony) was a $475,000 purchase from the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale and has now won six of his 10 starts.

The next opportunity for buyers to secure an Inglis graduate is at Melbourne’s Great Southern Sale, which starts today.  Held over four sessions, beginning from 12 noon, the sale starts with two days of weanlings, followed by another two sessions of Bloodstock on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Bloodstock session will open with young G2 winning stallion Written Tycoon, who is being sold to dissolve the current syndicate.  The Iglesia sire has had an excellent start to his stud career, having covered more than 200 mares in his two years to date at Eliza Park with excellent fertility.
