Inglorious crowned Queen of Canada

Former Coolmore shuttler Hennessy received more posthumous honours when Inglorious won the G1 Queen’s Plate at Woodbine on Sunday.

Inglorious (3f Hennessy – Noble Strike by Smart Strike) was the only filly in the Canadian classic which is the oldest continuously run race in North America.

“She’s amazing,” jockey Luis Contreras claimed.  “I followed the favourite (Check Your Soul) and it worked out.  She gave me everything.  That’s the main thing about her, she likes to win.”

Inglorious is trained by Josie Carroll for Donver Stable owners Donna and Vern Dubinsky.  She was runner-up in the G3 Rachel Alexandra Stakes in New Orleans before returning home to win the Lorgnette Stakes and Woodbine Oaks.  The Queen’s Plate sent her earnings past $1 million.

A $83,500 buy at the 2009 Canadian Select yearling sale, Inglorious is a half-sister to 2008 Queen’s Plate Trial placegetter Sebastian’s Song (Cherokee Run).  Their dam has just foaled a colt by Darley shuttler Hard Spun.

The Queen’s Plate is the first leg in the Canadian Triple Crown that goes forward to the Prince of Wales Stakes at Finger Lakes in July and the Breeders’ Stakes back at Woodbine in August.

Inglorious is a final crop filly by Hennessy who died in July 2007.  He shuttled to Coolmore for five seasons until 2001 and left the G1 winners Grand Armee and Half Hennessy out here.

His Australian based sire sons include Johannesburg (Coolmore), Henny Hughes (Darley) and All Bar One (Oaklands).
