Last start stakes placegetter Irel topped a highly successful Magic Millions Racehorse Sale at the Gold Coast on Tuesday.
A quality draft from the Williams family’s Hudson Conway was the highlight of the sale and they were the subject of strong interest from a healthy crowd. Trade reached $1.375 million on the 55 lots offered at an average of over $25,000. Every horses offered was sold.
Horses including Module, Leading, Baron and Downes were all good sellers but it was Irel who topped the Hudson Conway draft when purchased by top Victorian horseman Eric Musgrove for $170,000. “I’ve been watching him closely since they bought him from New Zealand and he’s been a very consistent performer,” Musgrove reported.
“He ran well in the stakes race the other day and he looks a good staying prospect. He might not be up to a Group 1but he is a very handy stayer and down the track he could make a nice jumper.”
Irel (4g Istidaad – God’s Angel) is a developing stayer who has won four of his 13 starts and ran a solid third in the Listed Bagot Handicap over 2800 metres at Flemington on New Year’s Day.
Nick Williams said his family was pleased with how the sale went in regards to their unreserved dispersal. “It all went well and we’re pleased,” Williams noted. “We look forward to watching the horses sold today race on and winning for their new connections.”
The sixth session of the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale will be held from 11am (Qld time) on Wednesday.
