Danehill’s reputation as a broodmare sire knows no bounds and another classic winner arrived on Sunday when Danedream destroyed her rivals in the G2 Italian Oaks.
Danedream (3f Lomitas – Danedrop by Danehill) won the Milan classic by six lengths after a last-start placing behind Crackerjack King and Cazals in the Italian Derby.
The winner was bred in Germany and sold for just 9,000 euros at the 2010 Baden-Baden Spring HIT Sale.
Danedream is a member of the penultimate crop of Lomitas and her dam Danedrop is a Danehill half-sister to seven winners including the dam of Listed Prix Yacowlef winner Roseanna.
The Italian Oaks is the latest European classic for Danehill as a broodmare sire. His daughters have already foaled classics winners Frankel, Golden Lilac and Roderic O’Connor this year.
Danehill mares have foaled 160 individual stakes winners worldwide. His Australian based Group 1 winners in that category just this year include Tuesday Joy, Sepoy, Shocking and Elite Falls.
