It’s A Dundeel marking time for Melbourne

Group 1 winning colt It’s A Dundeel (NZ) continued his preparation for the G1 MVRC Cox Plate with a gallop at Cambridge on Thursday.

It’s a Dundeel (3c High Chaparral – Stareel by Zabeel) has won 8 of his 12 starts including G1 victories in the Spring Champion Stakes, Randwick Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby.

Trainer Murray Baker sent him over 600 metres with stable companion Orion (O’Reilly) yesterday morning.  Jockey James McDonald returned from an overseas stint earlier this week and is looking forward to partnering the colt in Australia.

“He felt brilliant and came off the track bucking his brands off,” McDonald said.  “He has really furnished into a very nice horse and, hopefully, will stand up and make his mark in Melbourne.”

Baker confirmed he is looking at either the G1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 31 or the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington a week later as the launching pad for It’s A Dundeel’s four-year-old campaign.
