J J The Jet Plane to miss Krisflyer Sprint

Singapore’s Krisflyer Sprint on May 22 lost one of its main attractions when J J The Jet Plane broke down earlier this week.

The South African sprinter suffered a suspensory ligament injury in his near foreleg during a workout in Dubai.  He had been based at Meydan since winning the G3 Al Quoz Sprint for a second time last month.

“Although the injury is not career ending, it’s serious enough to put an end to his international campaign,” trainer Lucky Houdalakis said.  “He will return home as soon as possible, where we can hopefully nurture him back to full health once again.”

J J The Jet Plane (7g Jet Master – Majestic Guest by Northern Guest) had beaten Rocket Man in a head-bobbing finish to the G1 Hong Kong Sprint before travelling to the Gulf.

The short-course specialist has won 14 times in 26 starts.  His other G1 victories have come in the Computaform Sprint, Golden Horse Sprint and Mercury Sprint (2) in South Africa.

He also won a Listed event at Windsor in England and weighed in after the 2009 G1 Golden Jubilee and G1 July Cup.

J J The Jet Plane is by champion stallion Jet Master (Rakeen) who stands at Klipdrif Stud in the Western Cape.  He is also the sire of South African legend Pocket Power and brilliant sprinter Mythical Flight who holds the South African record for 1000m at 54.96s.
