Fastnet Rock sired his 55th stakes-winner when blue-blooded filly Jazz Song scored a surprise Group 3 victory in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.
Jazz Song (3f Fastnet Rock – Absolut Glam by Snowland) was a debut winner at Wangaratta in November and broke through at black-type level third time out on Friday night. The Mick Price trained filly started at $51 and charged home to win by a long neck.
“She worked super on Tuesday and I said to Mick that it was worth putting her in,” winning jockey Craig Newitt said. “When I went for her she went whoosh. It was a big win.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock, Jazz Song was a $625,000 buy for James Bester and Demi O’Byrne at the 2012 Inglis Eastter yearling sale. She is the first foal of G1 Qld Winter Stakes winner Absolut Glam who changed hands carrying the Typhoon Tracy winner for $950,000 at the 2010 Inglis Broodmare Sale.
Absolut Glam lost a colt by Fastnet Rock last spring but is now back in foal to the champion sire.
Fastnet Rock (Danehill) has sired 11 stakes winners in Australia this season. He is third on this season’s ladder with earnings of $5.42 million behind Snitzel ($6.43 million) and Exceed and Excel ($5.83 million).
