Jet Spur’s ability to sire precocious two year-olds has been evident ever since Slice And Dice opened his account at Eagle Farm in November 2009.
The Glenlogan Park resident has since sired 45 winners of 75 races but a black-type victory had proved elusive until Belle D’Amour claimed the Listed Lancaster Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Belle D’Amour (2f Jet Spur – Troop the Colours by Military Plume) chased home Freewheeling in the G2 Champagne Stakes last time out and she improved again to defeat Abstract (Domeday) to win by over a length at Eagle Farm.
“She worked an absolute treat during the week,” trainer Barry Baldwin said. “We’ve always had a good opinion of her and it’s nice to finally get some luck in running.”
Belle D’Amour will be set for a $150,000 QTIS 600 event on Rockhampton Cup Day later this month.
“She only cost $12,000 at the Magic Millions,” Baldwin said. “I really liked her and was willing to pay $40,000 so I went to New Zealand and bought two more yearlings with the change!”
Jet Spur was a G2 winner of the Dodo Sprint at Caulfield and the G3 L’Oreal Paris Plate at Flemington. He is by Champion sire Flying Spur out of the G3 winning mare Verocative (Bletchingly) who hails from the family of Zeditave.
