Squamosa sails home at Randwick

Squamosa gave his older rivals a galloping lesson when he resumed on a winning note in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday.

The Gai Waterhouse trained three year-old had been off the scene since being beaten a nose by Toorak Toff in the G1 Golden Rose in August 2010.  That loss has been his only reversal in five starts.

Squamosa (3c Not A Single Doubt – Class Success by Success Express) raced clear in the home straight to score by more than four lengths.  It completed a hat-trick for Arrowfield sires at Randwick after earlier wins by Startreusse (Starcraft) and Crossbow (Redoute’s Choice).

The Not a Single Doubt galloper was purchased by Star Thoroughbreds for $140,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions from the draft of Arrowfield Stud.

“He’s an outstanding colt and it’s exciting to see him win so brilliantly,” Star Thoroughbreds manager Denise Martin said  “We can’t wait to get him down to Melbourne for a Group 1.  He deserves to win one.”

Squamosa was on course for the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Trophy in January before going amiss.  It would have been the second leg of a Gold Coast feature for Not A Single Doubt.  His explosive filly Karuta Queen was a runaway winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic .

Not A Single Doubt can get early winners that train on.  He won the first and second season sires’ premiership in the winners category with 13 juvenile winners of 15 races (2008-09) and 10 juvenile winners of 16 races (2009-10).

Only High Chaparral and Fastnet Rock will finish above him in the third-season prizemoney premiership this season.

Not A Single Doubt stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield Stud.  His immediate success at stud has allowed Arrowfield to double his service fee to $24,750 (inc gst) this year.
