Jet Spur presses ahead for first-season premiership

Betting for Australia’s 2009-10 first-season sires’ title for winners was discontinued after Jet Spur jumped the blocks with a spate of early winners.  The Glenlogan Park resident has maintained that momentum and his tally reached 11 on Thursday when Fanciful won the Kiernan Investments Hcp (1000m) at Townsville.

Jet Spur (Flying Spur) was quoted at $6 before the current crop of two year-olds began racing but firmed into an odds-on favourite before sportingbet.com.au ceased taking bets.

Fanciful (2f Jet Spur-Systems Go by Sea Road) was a $10,000 purchase for Blackall trainer Kevin Birse at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She is the fifth foal for unraced mare Systems Go.  Second dam Aussie M’selle (Bold Aussie) was stakes placed as a three-year old.

Fanciful was runner-up to top local youngster Whitsunday Express at Townsville in November despite racing greenly.  She turned in another promising run second-up when fourth home in the Mackay Magic Millions won by Mundi Gully.

Resuming after a 16 week spell at Cluden Park on Thursday, Fanciful was always travelling sweetly before Ryan Wiggins sooled her to a winning lead in the straight.

Jet Spur (11) leads the Australian 2YO premiership for winners from Redoute’s Choice (9) and Mossman (8).  He has established a big break on the freshman ladder ahead of Snitzel (7) and Stratum (7).

Jet Spur’s 11 winners have come from 23 starters which is also a better strike-rate than his nearest rivals.  Glenlogan Park stood him for a $15,000 (+ gst) service fee in 2009.
