Jet Spur soaring ahead of Magic Millions

Flying Spur sire Jet Spur is firing on all cylinders ahead of the Magic Millions carnival.

The Glenlogan Park resident has 14 lots catalogued for the Gold Coast yearling sale and his locally trained flyer Biggles can give them a boost by winning the G3 Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben on Saturday.

His Toowoomba filly Big Jet Plane started the festive season with a brilliant victory in the Merry Christmas QTIS Maiden Plate (850m) at Clifford Park.  She is named after the 2010 hit single by Australian duo Angus and Julia Stone.

“She’s a good filly and had to overcome a wide run to make it home,” trainer Ben Currie said.  “I own half of her as well so it was a pretty sweet Christmas present.”

Big Jet Plane (3f Jet Spur – Ice Gold by Gilded Time) was a $13,000 buy out of the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS Sale.  “She pretty much paid for herself straight away with that win,” Currie claimed.  “That’s the beauty of QTIS and we look for the bonus races whenever we can.”

Her dam Ice Gold was a Canterbury winner for Bob Milligan and her latest yearling is a filly by former star sprinter Natural Destiny.

Jet Spur has been represented by 67 winners of 124 races and Biggles is top of the totem pole with $235,000 in earnings.

Biggles is the opening favourite for the $150,000 Vo Rogue Plate on New Year’s Eve and there will be a cash surplus for connections if he can double up in the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas on January 14.
