Winning New Year for Natural Blitz

Cromartry Park stallion Natural Blitz has made an encouraging start at stud and his latest winner arrived at Bunbury on Wednesday.

Purse Snatcher (3f Natural Blitz – Givem Heaps by Second Empire) came from well back to claim the Geographe Civil Maiden over 1200 metres.  Still in her first preparation, the locally based filly won running away by over a length from Foxing (Redoutable).

“There’s plenty of improvement left in her,” trainer Peter Giadresco said.  “She’s still an immature filly and will have another run or two before I send her for a spell.”

Managing part-owner Steve Musson bought Purse Snatcher for $4,5000 at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions Autumn yearling sale.  Her dam Givem Heap was bred by Bob Peters and is she is from the immediate family of his stakes winners Old Nick, Mogul and Battle Emblem.

Battle Emblem is also by former Heytesbury Stud sire Second Empire and she is one of four starters Peters has engaged in the G2 Perth Cup at Ascot on Saturday.

Giadresco also trains Natural Blitz colt Riverbend Cowboy who is primed to break through in Race 1 at Bunbury on Sunday.  He was a beaten favourite second-up earlier this month but can atone in the Bank Of Queensland Maiden (1100m).

Natural Blitz (Dehere) was a G2 winner at Caulfield, Moonee Valley, Rosehill and Eagle Farm.  He was also G1 placed in 2003 VRC Australian Cup won by Northerly.

The best of his first crop winners has been the Dan Morton trained filly Ningaloo Blitz.  She won at Belmont and then came from last to finish fourth in the G2 WA Guineas in November.

Morton will bring her back for an autumn campaign and likely targets include the LR Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m), LR Natasha Stakes (2200m) and G3 WA Oaks (2400m).  All three features will be run in March and total over $410,000 in prizemoney.

Ningaloo Blitz is part-owned by Fred Fairthorne who is also a member of the syndicates that race Morton’s Group 1 stars Scenic Blast and Scenic Shot.

Cromartry Park owner Olga McKenzie stands Natural Blitz for a $3,500 service fee.  He is based at the Gingin nursery alongside Famous Roman (Danetime) and Lords A Leaping (Zabeel).
