Written Tycoon capped another winning week with Tycoon Jewel in the Sunraysia Mallee Cup (1400m) on Tuesday.
The Woodside Park stallion has averaged a winner a day for the last week and Tycoon Jewel added her name to the roll-call with a narrow victory at Mildura. Settled at the back of the field by Harry Coffey, she came with a rush to beat Barely A Grin right on the line.
“She had been mucking around a fair bit so we fitted a shadow-roll to bring her head down,” trainer Austy Coffey said. “Today was the first time she’s raced in it and it worked.”
Tycoon Jewel (5m Written Tycoon – Grand Jewel by Brocco) was bred by Northern Lodge and sold for $16,000 at the 2012 Inglis VOBIS Gold yearling sale. Her dam has thrown 8 winners and her final foal is an unnamed 3yo colt by Bushranger.
Written Tycoon doubled up on Melbourne Cup day with Written Birch at Morphettville. She was racing over 1200m for the first time this season and won by a half-length for managing part-owners Ian and Vicki Bell.
Bell hails from Portland and operates a significant racing and breeding operation under Campolina Pty Ltd. He won the 2012 Cockram Stakes with Lady Melksham (Artie Schiller) and the 2014 Darwin Cup with another Victorian bred named Saturday Sorcerer (Any Given Saturday).
Written Tycoon has sired 40 individual winners of $1.29 million this season. He is second to Reset on the prizemoney table for Victorian based stallions and stands at Woodside Park for a $19,800 (inc gst) fee.
