The Japanese Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association has announced Coolmore sire Johannesburg has been sold to the Shizunai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.
The 10-year-old Hennessy stallion is currently covering a southern season at La Mission stallion station in Argentina.
Johannesburg had been based at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky since being retired in 2002. He shuttled to Australia for five years from 2003 to 2007.
Johannesburg has been represented by 26 stakes winners including the G1 winners Turffontein (Australia), Scat Daddy (USA) and Sageburg (France).
Bred in Kentucky, Johannesburg was purchased by Demi O’Byrne for US$200,000 at the 2000 Keeneland September yearling sale and was trained by Aidan O’Brien to win juvenile Group 1 races in the Prix Morny, Middle Park Stakes, Phoenix Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
