Jury still out after Judicial victory

Not a Single Doubt clinched at least a share of the first-season sires’ premiership for winners when Judicial won the Men Of League Hcp (1000m) at Gosford on Thursday.

Not a Single Doubt (Arrowfield) has now sired 13 individual winners, one clear of Shamardal (Darley) and Fastnet Rock (Coolmore) leading into the final day of the season.

Shamardal does not have a runner on Friday but Fastnet Rock can join his Arrowfield arch-rival on top if Rockfest, his final runner for the season, wins Race 2 at Warwick Farm.

Judicial (2c Not A Single Doubt – Vitale Beauty by Octagonal) is trained by Gai Waterhouse for Star Thoroughbreds and the youngster was in commission on debut after breezing home in two barrier trials at his home track in June.  Nash Rawiller allowed the colt to settle at Gosford before bringing him down the outside to win with ease.

Judicial was a $120,000 buy at the 2008 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  His dam retired a maiden after five starts and his second dam A Jewel (Prego) didn’t even make it to the races but there’s plenty of black-type close up in the pedigree.

A Jewel is a sister to Sydney stakes winner Vionnet and at stud she foaled the Listed winners Fashion News (Snippets), Cheverny (Grand Lodge), Academe (Royal Academy) and Vionneto (Danzero).  That quartet were all trained by Guy Walter for owner-breeders Sandy Tait and Jill Nivison.
