WA stallion Zedrich claimed his second winning hat-trick in as many months when he sired the first three winners at the Belmont meeting on Wednesday.
The Evergreen Lodge resident sired a treble on June 25 when Zerico, Divine Magic and Wocket In A Pocket saluted at Northam.
Cheval Roi (2g Zedrich – Eminere by Magic Of Money) got the ball rolling for Zedrich at Belmont on Wednesday. The Dan Morton trained gelding started a $16 outsider on debut but defeated odds-on favourite Against The Sky in a bob-of-the-heads finish. He descends from Future Edition (Serheed) who won Ascot stakes races for Evergreen’s Yovich family.
Costly Call (3g Zedrich – Dial A Honey by Sarab) was second cab off the rank for Zedrich at the midweek meeting. He is prepared by Brent Larsson at Bunbury and is the third city winner from as many starters for Dial A Honey. He follows Star Escort (Star Pak) and Moonemia (Laranto).
Pearler (3g Zedrich – Rosie’s Gesture by Serheed) received all the short-cuts under Steven Parnham to win Race 3 by a half-length. He defeated stablemate Facilitator who was ridden by Steve’s brother Brad.
Pearler’s dam is a half-sister to WATC Jungle Dawn Classic (LR) winner Calico Blue (Serheed). Second dam Royal Guilt (Is it True) is a half-sister to Son Of Vasac.
Son Of Vasac is one 10 stakes winners sired by Zedrich. Others include Danny Beau, a half-brother to Miss Andretti, and Secret Remedy, a Waroona based sire whose first crop are two year-olds.
Zedrich is available for a $4,000 service fee. He is rising 17 but still has time on his side considering his sire Zeditave will be shaping up for yet another season aged 24 at Newhaven Park this spring.
Zedrich stands alongside Zafonic shuttler Trade Fair who was a G3 winner of the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket and the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh. He was also G1 placed in the Dewhurst Stakes.
Trade Fair, who shuttles from Tweenhills Farm in England, has sired four winners to date from his first northern hemisphere crop in Europe.
His first Westspeed yearlings were in demand at the 2009 Perth Magic Millions. Trevor Andrews paid top price of $70,000 for the filly from Magic Puff out of the Evergreen draft.
