Kahal dominated the Summerhill Stud Ready-To-Run 2YO Sale in South Africa on Wednesday. His colt out of Listed winner Coastal Waltz (Coastal) topped proceedings at R400,000.
Like Street Cry, Kahal is a son of Machiavellian and was a Listed winner of the 1997 Challenge Stakes at Newmarket. Sheikh Hamdan stands him at Summerhill Stud for a R50,000 fee and he is currently third on the 2011-12 South African sires’ premiership
Owner Brian Burnard purchased the sale-topper who is from Arlington Listed winner Coastal Waltz. Burnard also paid next best price for a Mullins Bay- Class Will Sell colt at R240,000. Kahal equalled that amount with a colt from Deal A Double to the bid of Stephen Chetty.
Summerhill Stud reported the average rose to R70,000. The KwaZulu- Natal nursery, by its own admission, catalogued horses that were unwanted as yearlings because they were either, “late maturers, too little, injured or had less than perfect engineering”.
