North America accepts Lasix and Salix

North America’s Stakes Committee has announced that it will not implement a ban on race-day medication in 2YO Graded events in 2012.

The policy is aimed primarily at the anti-bleeding drugs Lasix or Salix.  The Breeders’ Cup Committee recently banned race-day medication for 2YO events for the 2012 World Championships.

“It has taken longer to implement than the committee hoped,” AGSC chairman Dr David Richardson said.  “We will work with racing officials, state regulators and others within the industry to advance the goal of conducting American Graded races at the highest level of integrity.”
