Kanzan in Command at Hawkesbury

Commands upped his overall black-type tally to 36 stakes winners courtesy of consistent mare Kanzan in the Listed Ladies Day Cup at Hawkesbury on Thursday.

The Sheikh Mohammed-owned miss made it a running double for Darley in the $100,000 feature on Hawkesbury Cup day.  Stablemate Beaded (Lonhro) won it last year before going on to Group 1 placings in the G1 All-Aged Stakes at Randwick and G1 Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Kanzan (4m Commands – Cherry Lodge by Grand Lodge) defeated Cullen Castle (Danewin) and Griffon (Flying Spur) to register her third win from 12 starts for earnings of $262,000.

Commands has been represented by five new stakes winners in as many weeks including G1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Erewhon, Soul, She Rules and Palomares.  The Darley sire is once again well-placed to record a Top 10 finish on the general sires’ premiership table.

He captured the Australian winners’ premiership last season with 143 individual winners and they won a total of 226 races.  Encosta de Lago holds the record with 147 individual winners set in 2008-09.

Commands is on track to beat that mark this season.   We are 14 weeks into 2010-11 and he has already sired 49 winners of 65 races.

Commands is standing the current season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc gst).
