Another notch for Niblick at Flemington

Exciting Melbourne galloper Niblick rounded out Oaks Day in grand style when he careered away to win Grazia Ultimate Style Guide Handicap at Flemington on Thursday.  The lightly raced Encosta de Lago gelding romped away from his rivals to win by three lengths.

Niblick (4g Encosta de Lago – Leica Vista by Sir Tristram) is raced by the Williams family and part owner Nick Williams said he was one of the most exciting in the stable.

“We bought him at the Magic Millions Sale from Swettenham Stud.,” Williams said.  “The Sangster family also bred Zipping and I’d love to think Niblick is still going strong as a nine-year-old – just like Zipping.

“Niblick is an enormous talent but we’ve had trouble teaching him to settle.  Nick (Hall) got him into a great position and once he saw daylight he put paid to them very quickly.”

Williams and his father Lloyd will target black type races into the future with Niblick but the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown later this month might come too soon for him.

Team Williams purchased Niblick for $220,000 from the draft of Swettenham Stud at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.  He is a half brother to the G2 Sandown Guineas winner Moon Dragon and their dam Leica Vista is a half sister to G1 Australasian Oaks winner Leica Smile and the dam of Zagreb.
