Karaka catalogues 30 Stravinsky yearlings

Cambridge Stud sire Stravinsky has built impressive stud statistics to match his stellar racing career.

Stravinsky (Nureyev) has sired 68 stakes winners, 8 of them at Group 1 level, and his winners-to runners strike-rate is more than 70%.

Stravinsky has 30 entries in the NZB National Yearling Sales Series, 21 in the Karaka Premier Sale, and the line-up includes numerous lots from Cambridge Stud’s elite broodmares.

Stravinsky has multiple entries out of mares from the Eight Carat family including colts from Diamond Smile and Special Diamond.  They are Zabeel daughters of prolific mare Diamond Lover.

The Stravinsky – Zabeel cross is a very successful nick.  From just 45 starters, it has provided an 80% strike-rate headed by the stakes winners Pure Harmony, La Sizeranne and Baby Guinness.

Stravinsky’s other entries in the Karaka Premier Sale include:

Lot 116 – Half-brother to Group 3 winner Do You Think (Starcraft) from the stakes winning Danehill mare Chickens.

Lot 314 – Half-sister to the G1 winner Shower of Roses (Zabeel) from the G1 winning mare Marquise (Gold and Ivory) who is a daughter of Eight Carat.

New Zealand champion Zabeel is the sire of 41 individual Group 1 winners and he has been one of the drawcards of the Karaka Yearling Sales for over a decade.

Zabeel currently leads the NZ and Australia’s Broodmare sires’ premiership and he is represented by 32 entries at the Karaka Premier Sale.  They include Lot 237, the filly from the G1 winning mare Honor Babe (Honor Grades).

Savabeel (Zabeel) has begun his stud career in fine fashion siring 13 stakes winners from four racing crops.  They include Tullamore, Strike the Stars, Dowager Queen and Scarlett Lady who won last year’s G1 Queensland Oaks.

Savabeel sired a second G1 winner when Karaka graduate Sangster scored a prestigious victory in the 2011 Victoria Derby.  The Cox Plate winner has 54 entries in the National Yearling Sales Series, 25 of them in the Karaka Premier Sale including;

Lot 389 – Sister to this season’s Group 1 VRC Derby winner Sangster.

Lot 440 – Three-quarter brother to the Group 1 Cox Plate winner Maldivian (Zabeel).

The NZB National Yearling Sales Series starts on January 30.  For news and information about the Sales Series contact reception@nzb.co.nz or visit www.nzb.co.nz
