Kavanagh Keeps the Faith

Stable star Whobegotyou begins Mark Kavanagh’s build up for the spring carnival in the G2 P B Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield this Saturday.

Kavanagh is busier than ever while his sons Sam and Levi are on annual leave and there are several promising gallopers back home in Adelaide.

Unfaithfully (4m Keep The Faith – Royal Jama by Royal Academy) is one with obvious potential but she’s also had her fair share of problems for the stable and managing part-owner Frank Pergoleto.

Kavanagh bought her for $56,000 from Greta West Stud at the 2009 Adelaide Magic Millions and she looked an early winner after blitzing a barrier trial by six lengths.

Sent out favourite for the LR Pewsey Vale Stakes at Morphettville, she travelled well but lost her action and was eased up by Simon Price.  Stewards ordered a vet examination late last year and she was spelled for 38 weeks before resuming at Balaklava last Wednesday.

Unfaithfully jumped straight to the front and skipped away in the straight to score by three lengths in the Ross Braley Maiden Plate (1055m).  “She’s an exciting filly,” Kavanagh said this week.  “I will start her again in a couple of weeks before making any plans.  Hopefully, she can stay in work and race right up to her ability.”

Greta West has a cracking Keep The Faith brother to Unfaithfully catalogued for the 2012 Adelaide Magic Millions.

Another brother, Fear The Faith, won on debut at Balaklava in June and trainer Bill Bogarts will bring him back in time for a spring campaign.
