NZ Bloodstock sponsors Caulfield WFA Championship

New Zealand Bloodstock has joined with the Melbourne Racing Club to present the inaugural NZB Spring WFA Championship which commences this Saturday at Caulfield.

The first of the four leg series is Saturday’s $200,000 G2 Back to Caulfield P B Lawrence Stakes (1400m) followed by the $200,000 G2 NZB Memsie Stakes (1400m), $350,000 G1 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) and $400,000 G1 NZB Caulfield Stakes (2000m).

New Zealand Bloodstock’s Co-Managing Director Petrea Vela says the company is delighted to be increasing its involvement with Australian racing.  “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to increase our involvement in Australia for the benefit of so many of our Australian-based clients, and to continue our association with the Melbourne Racing Club.  We’re looking forward to supporting the success of the new series.”

The New Zealand Bloodstock Spring WFA Championship is a points-based series and the winner will be determined by the horse that accumulates the most points at the conclusion of the series.

The points table is as follows;  First – 10,  Second – 8,  Third – 6,  Fourth – 4,  Fifth – 3,  Sixth / Seventh & Eighth – 1

The winning owners of the overall championship winner will receive a magnificent Emerald and Diamond clasp Pearl necklace to the value of $25,000 courtesy of Catanach Jewellers.  A perpetual trophy has also been commissioned for the series.

In 2010, champion New Zealand-bred galloper So You Think dominated the races that now form this series by winning the Memsie Stakes, Underwood Stakes and Caulfield Stakes in his whirlwind spring campaign.
