Keano retired to Salamander Park

Keano has been retired to stand at Philip Anderson’s Salamander Park at Merton in Victoria.

Trained by Danny O’Brien, Keano was a Listed winner of the 2009 QTC Lightning Stakes as well as winning at Flemington (4) and Moonee Valley.  He is by Pins from a half-sister to Champion NZ sire O’Reilly and cost Anderson $92,000 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne March Sale.

“With Ambitious Dragon (Pins) winning the 2011 Hong Kong Derby and Shamrocker (O’Reilly) winning the 2011 AJC Derby you don’t have far to look at the potential that Keano can offer to both speed and staying mares,” Anderson said.

“Given that O’Reilly stands for a $50,000 fee and Pins $40,000, breeding to Keano is exceptional value at $8,800.”

Keano was a $450,000 buy from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Easter yearling sale and he is one of four winners produced by O’Really (Centaine).  She is also dam of the stakes placed Be Delicious and second dam of the G3 Debonair winner Take The Rap.

Keano’s second dam is the Golden Slipper & Blue Diamond Stakes winner Courtza.  Her G1 winning son O’Reilly is an outstanding sire of 48 stakes winners.
