Keeneland began selling Book 3 at its September yearling sale on Sunday and a Malibu Moon colt topped trade with a bid of $300,000 to Marc Keller. He’s the first foal from the stakes-winning Meditations (Out of Place). The dam won twice as a juvenile by a combined 21 lengths including the Listed Three Ring Stakes at Calder in 2006.
An Afleet Alex colt was next best on the leader-board when Marc Ferrell successfully bid $290,000. Consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, he is from the G3 placed Kris S. mare Andover Lady. She hails from the family of G1 multi- millionaire Behrens (Pleasant Colony).
Turnover on Day 7 saw 284 horses sell for $16.63 million. The average of $58,579 was a 46% increase from a year ago. The median skyrocketed 85% to $50,000. The sale continues Monday and runs through September 26.
