A Distorted Humor colt topped Day 2 of the Tattersalls Craven 2YO Sale on Thursday evening.
The Kentucky-bred juvenile made 320,000gns at the second and final session of the Newmarket Sale. He was purchased by Sir Robert Ogden who also paid top price of 315,000gns for an Azamour colt on Day 1.
Both session-toppers were consigned by Willie Browne’s Mocklershill Stud. “This colt was an exceptional individual,” said Barry Simpson, Ogden’s racing manager. “He is a very refined individual and breezed nicely.
“It is so important that these horses are prepared well and we know that from Mocklershill there is plenty to go on with from here,” Simpson said. “They are not hard trained to get here and they arrive in great condition.”
The Distorted Humor colt is out of the G3 winning Dynaformer mare Stupendous Miss. He is a full brother to the winner Do It All who finished third in this year’s G2 San Fernando Stakes.
Tattersalls Craven 2YO Sale grossed 7.98 million guineas and the average of 71,313 guineas was down 10.6% from 2010. The clearance rate remained steady a 68%.
“There have been a number of positives to take from this year,” Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said. “We have seen some spectacular pin-hooking successes and the top end of the market has been particularly competitive.
“Domestic buyers faced stiff opposition from overseas and the increased participation from Hong Kong buyers has been one of the most encouraging features of the sale.”
