Darley Stud has announced Bernardini’s Kentucky stud fee will increase from $75,000 to $150,000 in 2012.
“Bernardini has solidified his remarkable first-crop achievements with star 3yo Stay Thirsty,” Darley spokesman Charlie Boden said. “Bernardini is a young horse we are so proud of and he is proving to be truly world-class.”
Stay Thirsty won the Travers Stakes, Jim Dandy Stakes and Gotham Stakes this year. He was also placed in the Belmont Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup.
It’s the second year in a row that Bernardini’s fee has been increased. It jumped from $60,000 to $75,000 for the 2011 northern season.
Bernardini shuttles Darley Kelvinside for a fee of $38,500 (inc gst). His first Australian bred winner arrived on October 22 when Meidung won at Rosehill.
Bernardini (A.P. Indy) will be joined at Darley’s Jonabell Farm by Australia’s reigning champion sire Lonhro. “He has been so well received since we announced his arrival just last month,” Boden added. “We can’t wait to show Lonhro to breeders in January.”
