Street Boss filly Cathryn Sophia has claimed the second Group 1 for her sire this year with an electrifying performance in the Kentucky Oaks (1800m).
The Darley Victoria shuttler has a roll-call of 23 stakes winners world-wide and Friday’s classic at Churchill Downs follows The Quarterback’s G1 Newmarket Hcp (1200m) victory at Flemington in March.
Street Boss (Street Cry) has covered over 100 mares in his last four books for an $11,000 fee at Northwood Park. Not surprisingly, Darley has increased his services to $27,500 (inc gst) this year.
Cathryn Sophia (3f Street Boss – Sheave by Mineshaft) broke sharply and stalked the pace in the Kentucky Oaks before pulling clear on the home turn. There were concerns about the 1800 metres but she maintained a three-length margin to the wire in front of a record crowd of 124,590.
“She’s maturing and learning to settle,” trainer John Servis said. “We were feeling pretty good coming here and it opens up a whole new book now that we know she can get the distance.”
Cathryn Sophia has been a headliner from the outset winning her first four starts by a combined margin of 41 lengths! Starting with a Philadelphia maiden in October, she blitzed the LR Gin Talking Stakes, G2 Forward Gal Stakes and G2 Davona Dale Stakes before losing her unbeaten record in the G1 Ashland Stakes last month.
The Street Boss filly is from an unraced daughter of G2 Golden Rod Stakes winner Belterra. She was a $30,000 buy at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Maryland yearling sale and has now earned $949,720 for Cash is King Stable owner Chuck Zacney
Servis said Cathryn Sophia will train ahead for a possible start in the G1 Acorn Stakes (1600m) at Belmont Park on June 11.
