Kingmambo an emotional loss at Lane’s End

Breed-shaping sire Kingmambo has been put down at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky.

“It is a tough, emotional loss for all of us,” Lane’s End owner Will Farish said.  “He has been with us for a long time, was so very successful and will be greatly missed.”

The 26 year-old stallion had been pensioned in 2010.  He supplied 20 Group 1 winners around the globe including El Condor Pasa, Divine Proportions, Lemon Drop Kid, King’s Best, Henrythenavigator, Rule Of Law and Russian Rhythm.

Kingmambo’s daughters have kept his name in lights, producing top-level winners such as Midday, Duke Of Marmalade, Camelot, Gozzip Girl, Maids Causeway and Ruler Of The World.

Kingmambo (Mr Prospector) was bred and raced by Stavros Niarchos from his iconic mare Miesque (Nureyev) to win at Group 1 level in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains, Prix du Moulin and St James’s Palace Stakes.

In Australia, he has been represented by the imported Group 1 winners Tawqeet (Caulfield Cup & Metropolitan Hcp) and My Kingdom Of Fife (ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes) but the sireline has been less than successful in the southern hemisphere.

His sire sons that failed to make the grade out here included Henrythenavigator (Coolmore), Dubai Destination (Darley), Thewayyouare (Coolmore), King’s Best (Darley), Eavesdropper (Emirates Pk) and Okawango (Foxes Hollow & Linden Pk).

There are two Kingmambo stallions still active in Australia – King Cugat (Barree Stud / Vic) and Zaha (Clear Mountain Fairview / Qld).

His death follows that of former Lane’s End champion sire Gulch last week.
