Kingston’s reign ends at Ealing Park

Melbourne Cup winner Kingston Rule has died at Ealing Park aged 25.  The USA bred stallion had been pensioned earlier this year by Ealing owner Tim Johnson.

Kingston Rule (Secretariat – Rose Of Kingston by Claude) had been based at the Euroa property since winning the 1990 Melbourne Cup.

No horse couldn’t have asked for better a start in life.   A magnificent chestnut, his sire was Horse of the Century Secretariat and his dam Rose of Kingston was Australia’s Horse of the Year in 1982.

Bred and raced by David and Helen Hains, Kingston Rule was prepared by Bart Cummings and won the Melbourne Cup in a record time of 3:16.3s which still stands.

Kingston Rule has sired 191 winners of 591 races at a 52% strike-rate.  His 8 stakes winners include the Group 1 winners Kensington Palace (1997 VRC Oaks) and Sheer Kingston (1999 Adelaide and Brisbane Cups).
